Sand Content Kit – API Standard Sieve Analysis for Drilling Fluids
Innova Corporate (India) is a leading manufacturer and global exporter of the Sand Content Kit (Sand Measuring Kit) based in Delhi. A primary function of any drilling fluid is the efficient transport of drilled solids. Excessive sand-sized particles (defined by API standards as any material larger than 74 µm or 200-mesh) act as highly abrasive contaminants. If not monitored, these solids can lead to catastrophic equipment failure and compromised wellbore integrity.
Sieve analysis remains the industry’s preferred method for sand content determination due to its reliability and simplicity. Our kit measures the volume percentage of sand grains, including the void spaces between them, relative to the total volume of the drilling mud. This test is applicable for both low-solids fluids and weighted mud systems, providing mud engineers with the data required to optimize solids control equipment and prevent costly downtime.
Maintaining a low sand percentage is critical for operational success. High sand concentrations can result in the deposition of an excessively thick filter cake on the borehole walls, increasing the risk of differential sticking. Furthermore, excessive sand causes rapid abrasive wear on pump components, valves, and pipe connections, and can lead to solids settling around drilling tools when circulation is suspended, interfering with the setting of casings.
The Innova Sand Content Kit is a rugged, portable, and highly accurate apparatus. The kit comprises a specialized 200-mesh brass sieve fastened within a polyethylene collar, a 10 ml graduated glass measuring tube (0–20% range), and a durable plastic funnel. For field convenience, a 500 ml wash bottle and a high-impact carrying case are included, ensuring all components are protected in harsh drilling environments.
